Abstract. The article is devoted to one of the most important components of the provincial nobility’s value system – the institution of patronage. The patronage ties of the nobility, their relationship with the epoch, the impact on the social relations of the second half of the XVIII th – the middle of the XIX th century are analyzed basing on a wide range of unpublished sources. Particular attention is paid to the mechanism of class relations “decorativeness” formation on the basis of patronage ties.
