Submitted: November 6, 2013
Abstract. The article considers the place of the notion “globalization” in the system of the terms that define it. The author substantiates the distinction of globalization from modernization: if the former is a mostly objective process, modernization has subjective nature. Two main forms of contemporary modernization – westernization and acculturation – are revealed. Contemporary modernization does not guarantee the resolution of the contradictions of globalization, engenders the fear of the future (“future-shock” on the basis of “culture-shock”). The author shares the view of modernity self-negation in postmodernity.
