BREAK-DOWN AFTER RECORDS: GOLD MINING INDUSTRY OF THE NORTH-EAST OF RUSSIA IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 1970S

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the experience of gold mining industry development in the North-East of Russia in the second half of the 1970s, when record-breaking figures were followed by severe recession in work. The factors that predetermined the decrease in metal currency mining volume in the region are ascertained. Particular emphasis is placed on the technical re-unification of Severovostokzoloto union on the basis of heavy tractors import production. Special attention is paid to the problems of labour and nature protection while mining in the region. The results of gold mining in the ninth and tenth five-year plans are compared. The role and importance of Severovostokzoloto in the structure of the Ministry of Nonferrous Metallurgy, Soyuzzoloto, and the gold mining industry of the USSR as a whole are determined.
