“NEW WOMAN” AND GENDER CRISIS IN GREAT BRITAIN OF THE XIX

Abstract.
In the article the socio-cultural phenomenon of Great Britain of the XIX
th-XX
th centuries turn “new woman” is considered. Special attention is paid to the reconsideration of the Victorian conception of true femininity based on the idea of sexes complementarity and isolated spheres ideology, which are sharply criticized in discourse about new woman as artificial social constructs created by patriarchy society. The conclusion is made that new woman as a symbol of sex category destabilization and the elimination of strict borders between sexes that had existed before designated a gender crisis of the centuries turn.
