Abstract.
The article is devoted to the activity of the people’s universities of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic during the period of their uppermost activity – in the 1970-1980s. People’s universities number dynamics, the composition of students and teachers, management system are analyzed. People’s universities success is shown in the soviet people’s literacy level rise, political and scientific knowledge propaganda, and also their development problems at different stages. People’s universities importance is researched in the soviet citizens’ continuing education system, the reasons of their graduate stagnation at the end of the 1980s are shown.
