Abstract. On the basis of the written monuments analysis of the late antiquity epoch and early Middle Ages, containing the description of rulers’ mythological figures, the author singles out potestas-mythological images conditionally characterized as guide, wise man, righteous man, defender, hero, and victim. These figures are compared with collective unconscious archetypes revealed by C. G. Jung, such as Animus, Father, Identity, Shadow and so on. The conducted analysis allows stating the determinative significance of these archetypes for the formation of the power image of the considered period.
