Abstract.
The article reveals the place and role of humanitarian intervention and its modifications of “responsibility to protect” in the geopolitics of the West. The argumentation of the supporters and opponents of humanitarian intervention is analyzed. The authors’ point of view on ways to resolve the conflict between the basic principles of international law – ensuring the sovereignty of states and the protection of human rights – is given.
