Abstract.
The ornamental culture of the Karachays and Balkars has its centuries-old rich history, unique traditions rooted in antiquity. The article considers the types of the Karachay-Balkar ornament, which formation was influenced by various aspects of social, cultural, spiritual, religious and political life. As a result of the analysis the author reveals that the Karachay-Balkar ornamentation has all major types of ornament: geometric, plant, animal and cosmological.
