Abstract.
The epoch of “Great Reforms” resulted in cardinal changes in all the spheres of gentlefolk life. It also influenced the economic status of the women of provincial noble society. The article for the first time performs the analysis of the commercial activity of the noblewomen of Kazan province in the second half of the XIX - at the beginning of the XX century. Analyzing the motives and forms of business activity, the author testifies the extension of the economic self-reliance of the representatives of the upper class in the mentioned period.
