INTEGRATION VS SOVEREIGNTY: DOES THE EUROPEAN UNION HAVE THE FUTURE?

Abstract.
The article touches upon the theoretical aspects of development and the prospects of integration in the EU. The essence of the problem is conditioned by the presence of two contradictory tendencies: integration processes intensification and the preservation of the sovereign state prerogatives. The author shows that in spite of declarative statements on aspiration for unity there is a number of the institutional, procedural and legal mechanisms of the sovereign state protection from the consequences of the EU federalization.
