Abstract. The author studies one of the most important stages of the history of the Anglo-Afghan relations at the beginning of the XX century, when on the viceroy of India G. Curzon’ initiative the attempts of direct military and political pressure on Kabul were made. The aim of these attempts was to turn Afghan territory into the sphere of the predominant British influence. The attitude of the emir Habibullah Khan was pointed at the maintenance of the whole system of the Anglo-Afghan relations as they were, without any revision of them.
