Abstract.
In the article the facts of illegal opposition to the conduct of business, trade and tourism (terrorism, piracy, seizure of hostages etc.) in the water areas of coastal states, their regularities and specificity are considered. Legal and political peculiarities, which are typical for different countries with regard to struggle against the stated kind of crimes, are analyzed. The author emphasizes the obviously insufficient efficiency of measures to solve this problem, gives modern ways of opposition to piracy by the example of states that have achieved most effective results in this struggle and suggests an optimal approach towards the problem solution by means of the achievement of the correlation, proportionality and unification of various national legislations.
