FORMATION OF HUMANISTIC IDEAL IN THE ANCIENT WESTERN PHILOSOPHY

Abstract.
The doctrine of Socrates set up a turn of the ancient Greek - even the ancient western - philosophy towards a human being. There are different interpretations of his philosophical heritage. The development of Socrates’ ideas by Plato and Aristotle is accentuated in the paradigm of humanistic search. The conception of “humanism” takes its origin in the ancient Roman philosophy, which introduced and justified this term. The article emphasizes that as a tendency in the spiritual life of human civilization humanism brought into existence with anthropological content.
