Abstract.
The article justifies a necessity for the analysis of the basic approaches to the cultural self-identification of Russia and Ukraine. The author emphasizes the similarity of the factors of the development of national self-consciousness determining the formulation and solution of the problem on the essence of national cultural identity. The paper identifies the basic tendencies of the search for cultural identification and argues prospects for the integration of the Ukrainian culture with the synthesizing culture of Russia under the condition of preserving its specifics.
