SPECIFICS OF CREATIVE METHOD AND PICTORIAL TECHNIQUE OF EUGÈNE CARRIÈRE

Yuliya Vladimirovna Petrova
Moscow City

Submitted: July 25, 2014
Abstract. The article examines a creative method developed by Eugène Carrière and used by the artist in the period of maturity (1885-1905). Studying available documents the author makes a paradoxical conclusion on how typical for Carrière’s works monochrome colouring was created and demolishes a popular view about the dominance of grey colour in the painter’s palette. A special passage of the article is devoted to the plastique of the painter’s personages, his approach to preliminary drawing and composition arrangement.
