Abstract. In the article approaches towards the prevention of alcohol use among students are considered. It is noted that the most prevailing one is the approach oriented towards the prevention of hard drinking emergence. However the conclusion that the most constructive one is the approach oriented towards the “denormalization” of alcohol use on the whole is drawn. The author suggests using this approach through the formation of proper educational competences as the final goal of the prevention of alcohol use in the educational space of the higher education establishment.
