Abstract.
The article highlights the gender aspects of traditional magical practices. It considers the main causes of witchcraft, magic, sorcery appearance in the soviet before-kolkhoz village. The activity of sorceresses, witches and wise women is analyzed. By real-life examples the author reveals the attitude of the peasantry to the subjects of mysterious practices. The study concludes about the popularity of sorcery and witchcraft in the rural society of the 1920s.
