Abstract.
The article on the basis of the analysis of archival material and published sources for the first time tries to reconstruct the history of implementing ethnographical initiatives in the areas of the compact settlement of the Yukaghir people in the period of the 1900-1940s. Accordingly, the paper describes the themes and basic areas of the identified studies. The author emphasizes the most important conceptions developed by researchers on the problems of the settlement of this nation, its material and spiritual culture, physical and anthropological characteristics and interethnic relations. The paper identifies the role of the investigated initiatives in developing scientific knowledge about the Yukaghirs.
