Abstract.
The article reveals the contribution of Aleksandr Arkad'evich Kaufman (1864-1919) in developing the theory and practice of statistical service. The author analyzes his papers of theoretical and methodological nature concerning the theory of statistics, identifying its place in the studies of social processes, the application of tabular procedure in statistics. Special attention is paid to his activity in the Ministry of Agriculture and State Property; the article also focuses on the papers devoted to the problems of statistical service in the period of resettlement policy and his views on the organization of statistical agencies.
