Abstract. The paper analyzes the views of contemporaries on the nature of the multi-party socialist government, the idea of which in 1917 was opposed to the ruling liberal-socialist coalition and was associated with the possibility of escape from revolutionary cataclysms. The author for the first time identifies the nature, content and evolution of the “pro-soviet” and “anti-soviet” variants of such government, their correlation with the political landscape and the prospect for the creation of the civil consensus of state power.
