Abstract.
The article is devoted to the personification of tales characters in the children’s opera “Ivan the Fool” by C. Cui. The paper presents archival materials - the letters of C. Cui to his librettist N. Dolomanova that provide information about the history of creating the opera “Ivan the Fool”. The analysis of this work, which is based on the Russian folk tale, reveals the distinctive features of the libretto, figurative sphere, drama and musical language of the children’s opera by C. Cui. The author notes that while composing the children’s opera Cui relied on the existing samples of musical stage works intended for adult audience, but at the same time took into account the peculiarities of children’s perception and psychology.
