T. S. ELIOT’S THEORY OF TRADITION AS PARADIGM OF ONTOLOGY OF ART AND ITS APPLICATION IN POETICAL PRACTICE

Abstract.
The article considers Thomas Stearns Eliot’s theory of tradition as a paradigm of the ontology of art. The novelty of the subject at issue is in the fact that the theory is analyzed from the perspective of aesthetics. The author concludes that Eliot understands tradition as the timeless integrity of all literary works that are in the state of continuous interaction with one another. Thereby the ontological independence and special temporal status of works of art are proved.
