Abstract.
The article considers the importance and status of the Russian popular dance in folk groups, reference to the sources of the Russian popular choreography. The process of the transformation of popular dance into stage one, and the development of the range of regional dance styles are analyzed. The professionalism of the choreographer and his/her creative basis directly depend on the study and understanding of choreographic heritage. The authors pay attention to the value of the unique cultural phenomenon, the importance of preserving progressive achievements, in which popular choreographic art is rich.
