ROLE OF DESIGN IN THE CONTEXT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMATIC AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract.
This article considers the social-cultural role and capabilities of design in solution of environmental problematic, the formation of ecological culture and the culture of the consumption of society for the implementation of the conception of sustainable development. The impact of object-spatial environment on social-cultural processes is analyzed, and requirements for it in the context of sustainable development are determined. The author identifies the environmental aspects of design considering it as aesthetic activity and as a part of the process of production, and suggests a set of requirements to the semantics of images, to forming eco-design objects, to the rationality of design solutions.
