Abstract. The article is devoted to the transformation of the image of Judas in the modern western cinematography. The author analyzes connection between processes taking place in society and their representation in arts and theology. By the example of a number of films the evolution of the image of Judas from unambiguously negative character to tragic hero, which allows speaking if not about his rehabilitation but about the reconsideration of the image of this character of the New Testament in mass consciousness, is shown.
