Abstract.
In the article the mutual contingency of a number of attitudes of Descartes and Sade is considered. The author shows the influence of Cartesianism on the occurrence of the main rhetorical and metaphorical figures in the texts of Sade. Sade develops clearly and consistently the Cartesian anatomy of the body-machine subordinating his own discourse to the construction of the body taxonomy. The work shows that in many ways Cartesian and Sade’s practices of corporality description are close to each other, and the texts of Sade express the integrity of the Cartesian body conceivable habitually only in terms of duality.
