Abstract.
The article attempts to examine the peculiarities of the South Ural region culture through the idea of chronotopos bringing together the awareness of an individual nation - local ethnic community - of the place and time of their existence. The paper is based on ethnographic materials about the mountain Atach (Magnitanaya), which played a significant role in the process of the culturogenesis of the South Ural region. The chronotopos “mountain” gets its meaning of a connecting link between the mythological past, the history of the developing of the South Ural region and its current state. Its special role is revealed in the process of determining the mentality of the unique “regional type” formed as a result of the influence of natural-geographic and cultural-historical factors.
