Abstract. The article touches on the gnosiological status of apophatism, identifies its specifics as a method of the cognition of existence-universe (antiquity) and existence-God (apophatic theology), clarifies the relation of apophatism and atheism. The ontological category of “nothing” is represented as a link between them. The authors identify a meaningful difference of apophatic nothing as something uncertain and the atheistic interpretation of nothing as the negation of existentiality.
