Abstract.
The article raises a problem of the interaction of traditional socio-normative culture and the new Russian legislation and identifies one of the mechanisms for using tradition in new economic and political realities - the verdict of the rural gathering. The author presents an analysis of the texts of the social verdicts of the rural communities of Ossetia of the second half of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century that were initiated by the Russian administration for fiscal purposes and provided changes in the organization of marriage and traditional wedding rites.
