Abstract.
The article for the first time presents a comparative analysis of the institution of jurymen, which existed with the Shapsugs and the Natukhai in the first half of the XIX century, with the similar institution provided by modern criminal procedure legislation. The authors describe a procedure for the formation of the jury, the specifics of the proceedings and the rights of the persons, who participated in them. The paper aims to identify the level of the legal culture of the Shapsugs and the Natukhai in the first half of the XIX century. The researchers emphasize the progressiveness of the principles that constituted the basis of their legal procedure.
