GEOPOLITICAL RELATIONS BETWEEN IRAN AND RUSSIA: NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR COOPERATION

Abstract.
The topic of the article is obstacles and new opportunities for geopolitical cooperation between Iran and Russia in terms of the threat of the aggressive expansionism of the West. The problems and stimuli of the development of this cooperation are analyzed; the emergence of new geopolitical understanding of common interests and threats for Tehran and Moscow is pointed out. The link between the policy of pressure on Iran because of its nuclear program and on Russia caused by the crisis in Ukraine and their resistance to the western destructive hegemony is assessed. The methodological basis of the article is the systemic and historical-comparative methods of analysis and the paradigm of realism subject to the current situation. The analysis of the causes of new opportunities for geopolitical cooperation between Iran and Russia is the result of the problem study. Contradictions with the West, maintaining geopolitical stability and synergetic approach to the problem of providing common interests lead them to cooperation.
