PROBLEM OF FREEDOM AND ITS SOLUTION IN ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the philosophical problem of freedom. The author argues that in each historical epoch the problem of freedom is addressed differently. Within the framework of the conducted analysis the paper reveals the views of ancient philosophers on this problem. The researcher emphasizes that in the works of the philosophers of ancient Greece and Rome the meaningful interpretation of this term has various nuances: freedom may be considered in correlation with necessity or associated with absolute self-will and despotism.
