DICHOTOMY “ROMANS - BARBARIANS”, ETHNIC IDENTITY AND FRONTIERS IN THE CONTEXT OF ETHNO-CULTURAL TRANSFORMATION OF GREAT MIGRATION AGE

Abstract.
The article studies the ethno-cultural transformation of the Great Migration Age according to the key parameters: ethnonyms, dichotomy “Romans - barbarians”, ethnic identity and frontiers, and the notion “barbarians”. The sources, background, event component, and consequences of the Great Migration are considered. The need to study it as a single and complex phenomenon is stated. The key role of the dichotomy “Romans - barbarians” is determined, as well as the phenomenon of frontiers in this process.
