MUSICAL RHETORIZATION OF TEXT IN ANTHEMS OF PRAISE BY WILLIAM BYRD

Abstract. The article discovers the originality of the figurative-musical vocabulary of anthems of praise by William Byrd. The author touches on the problem of the formation of the Anglican anthem, analyzes the importance of the composer’s anthem creative work and its musical and rhetorical specifics in the context of the interaction of English and Italian madrigal cultures. The researcher identifies the peculiarities of using musical and rhetorical means appropriate to the eulogistic tone of the verbal text of anthems.
