Abstract.
In the article the reasons and forms of the transformation of socio-cultural sphere in the Weimar Republic are revealed. The author considers the basic contradictions between the new types and forms of leisure activities in accordance with the changed political, economic and socio-cultural situation and the desire to preserve the traditional kinds of socio-cultural activities according to German cultural tradition. The actualization of contradictions between traditions and innovations in the life of Weimar reflected in socio-cultural sphere is explained. The brief overview of the cultural life of the German society of this period and literary texts illustrate socio-cultural sphere as space that unites “the divided society” of the Weimar Republic. Special attention is paid to the emancipation of the woman and her new role in the life of the country. The author concludes that socio-cultural sphere helped and contributed to overcoming the feeling of the division and disappointment of the Germans and was one of the practices of adaptation to the new realities of life.
