Abstract.
The article offers to pay attention to the necessity of systemic approach in the examination of the socio-cultural phenomenon of Gothic implying a complex analysis on the basis of the data of various spheres of humanist knowledge. The author considers two main tendencies connected with the functioning of secular and confessional in Gothic culture, and highlights specific significance of the town and its cult centre - the Gothic Cathedral as organic unity of immanent and transcendent, ideological and spiritual, public and individual.
