Abstract.
The article is devoted to the study of the transformation of the sociocultural role of the nobility on the eve and during the period of reforms of the 60-70s of the XIX century in the Russian village. The paper considers the ambiguity of the influence of the nobleman’s Europe-oriented education on his adaptation to the role of the owner of the estate both before and after the abolition of serfdom. The author highlights the positive role of all-classes zemstvos and post-reform courts in the formation of the political culture of the peasantry, including through the interaction of the two classes in their framework.
