RELIGION AND POLITICAL TECHNOLOGIES IN INDIA

Abstract. On the basis of the latest publicistic materials the article examines the influence of religion on India’s policy. In spite of constitutional norms religious factor remains one of the most important features of Indian statehood. The author focuses on the existing in the country inter-confessional tension conditioned basically by the generally accepted conception of Hinduism as an Indian culture. The paper provides examples of how the leaders and ideologists of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata - Indian People’s Party) and INC (Indian National Congress) parties use Hindu religion to manipulate public opinion.
