Abstract.
The article examines the formation of the principle of the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms in the European Union; special attention is paid to the legal foundations of the EU accession to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of 1950, which were laid by Lisbon Agreement and Protocol № 14 to the Convention. The author also analyzes the legal consequences of the negative conclusion of the European Union Court regarding the Draft Agreement on the EU accession to the Convention.
