PHENOMENON OF SACRIFICE AT THE INTERSECTION OF THEOLOGY AND POLITICS

Abstract.
The article examines the original conception of self-sacrificingness in the fundamental anthropology by the French philosopher Rene Girard. Some aspects of the intellectual evolution of the thinker are analyzed. It is shown that his book “I See Satan Fall like Lightning” develops his early ideas about the social meaning of sacrifice. The argumentation used by Girard is characterized by relying on rationality, but not on belief in supernatural and is a direct apology of Christianity.
