IMPERATIVE “CARE OF THE SELF” AS A REGULATIVE PRINCIPLE AND ATTITUDE TO THE WORLD IN M. FOUCAULT’S WORK “THE HERMENEUTICS OF THE SUBJECT”

Abstract.
The article deals with the provisions of the general theory “care of the self” stated in M. Foucault’s work “The Hermeneutics of the Subject”, which served as a basis of a special art of life, the “culture of the self” in Greek, Hellenistic and Roman history. The importance and priority of the principle of the “care of the self” as a condition of access to truth in the evolution of Western thought are emphasized. The author reveals a provision stating that it is in the Golden Age of the “culture of the self” when the source of morality had been identified, which Christian and modern European thought inherited afterwards.
