Abstract. The article is devoted to the history of the documentary films of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. The author for the first time presents the integral picture of the creative connections of the cinematographers of Kazan Newsreel Studio on the basis of published and unpublished sources. Special attention in the paper is paid to the organization of film festivals in the republic. This study illustrates the work of the Soviet cinema system by the example of the regional film studio, which contributed to keeping interest to national documentary films.
