Abstract.
The article is devoted to the conceptual understanding of the subject field of social ethics in Russian thought at the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century. As the main backbone concepts determining the subject field of social ethics the author singles out the concepts of public ideal, legal awareness, solidarity and freedom. The relevance of the theme is conditioned by the active development of the problems of social ethics and public morality in modern ethical discourse. The novelty of the issue statement is in the fact that for the first time in the discourse of social ethics the heritage of the Russian philosophers of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries has been included.
