Abstract. The article examines the fundamental problems of epistemology/gnoseology in the context of postmodernist philosophy proposed by R. Rorty. Rorty justly criticizes the idea of “privileged representations”, however he doesn’t take into account that not a thought has “contact with reality”, but a man as a subject of cognition and that “privileged access” to objectively-existing is provided by the incorporation of consciousness into the vital activity of a subject of cognition, which is one of the forms of objectively-existing itself.
