Abstract.
In literature on art criticism an opinion formed long ago that appeal for French nature motives is a novelty of the painters of the XIX century. But interest in national landscape had developed implicitly over several centuries in pictures by Le Nain brothers, A. Watteau, F. Boucher and Jean-Honoré Fragonard, in romanticism painters’ works. The article is devoted to the creative work of little known painters of the XVIII century - Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Alexandre Francois Desportes, Simon Mathurin Lantara, and Gustave Moreau - the real predecessors of the Barbizon school.
