Abstract. The article is devoted to educational programs for the eradication of illiteracy as the key tools in solving the problems of mass poverty that were developed and are implemented by the Wesleyan Church in various cultural contexts. In this connection, theological foundations for ensuring enlightening programs among the world’s poorest people are studied. The author proves that such activity has positive influence on the society as a whole.
