HISTORY OF GEORGIA - UNITED STATES RELATIONS IN THE LIGHT OF STRATEGIC INTERESTS OF THE USA IN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS REGION

Abstract.
The article deals with the history of Georgia - United States relations from the standpoint of the promotion by the United States of their strategic interests in the South Caucasus region. The author analyzes the historical, political and strategic position of Georgia as a country of the region, which is in the sphere of the interest of the NATO and the European Union. The intensive cooperation of the USA and Georgia in economic and military-strategic areas increases the probability of the entry of Georgia into the North Atlantic Alliance with the prospect of placing within its territory the military bases of the NATO. In turn, the presence of Russia’s interests in the region transforms Georgia into one of the objects of the clash of the geopolitical interests of the world powers.
