Abstract.
The purpose of the article is the study of the woman’s experience of survival in the conditions of the ethnic deportation of the Balkarians during the Great Patriotic War. The gender approach to the investigation allows determining the boundaries of the extreme and everyday in the period of the enforced resettlement. The main conclusion is as follows: the authority’s policy towards the deported peoples of the Caucasus - the execution of “ethnic anesthesia” - turned out to be inefficient due to the woman’s practices of adaptation to new conditions of existence and their ability to preserve mental guidelines.
