DESACRALIZATION OF ANCIENT GREEK ATHLETIC AGON IN PINDAR’S CREATIVE WORK

Abstract.
The article explores whether it was the tendency for the desacralization of athletic agon in Pindar’s creative work. The study is relevant because, firstly, sport in Hellas takes its origin just in the religious and cultic sphere and, secondly, Pindar’s epinikia discover more of the interrelation of athletics and religion than the tendency for the diversification of these two categories. Analyzing the texts the author has found convincing evidences that the poet just represents the reality of his epoch, in which the sport element of ancient Greek agon becomes to occupy a special place in Hellenic culture and worldview.
