Abstract. The article analyzes memoirs literature in terms of its use in contemporary historical research. The focus is on the analysis of the problem of the interference of historical memory and the process of creating memoirs. The paper considers the mechanisms of historical memory change: memories, reflections and oblivion. The author makes conclusions about the high heuristic potential of memories despite their immanent subjectivity. It is proved that memoirs can become an important source for research in the framework of intellectual history and the history of everyday life.
